ENVIRONMENTAL
SERVICES

Take advantage of hemp's
environmental
benefits
Hemp cultivation offers numerous environmental benefits, particularly CO2 absorption, water resource preservation, and biodiversity protection. The Hemp PES contract is an innovative initiative that compensates farmers for these ecological services.

Building on multiple sustainable development goals, this contract allows companies to support effective environmental actions, strengthening their CSR commitment and improving their environmental, social, and governance performance, in line with CSRD directive requirements.
What is a PES contract?

Prestations for Environmental Services (PES) are financial mechanisms designed to encourage the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources by compensating individuals or communities who provide these environmental services. These systems are deployed in many countries to adapt to climate change and incentivize farming systems to improve their environmental performance. In France, the Ministry of Environment has developed a prestation scheme for environmental services implemented by water agencies, which compensates farmers who adopt practices promoting more sustainable agriculture, water resource protection, and biodiversity preservation.

The InterChanvre
PES contract
The Hemp Environmental Services contract in France is an innovative initiative developed by InterChanvre. Created by and for farmers and distributed without intermediaries. It aims to compensate hemp-producing farmers for their environmental services, addressing 10 sustainable development goals (SDGs), with particular focus on three: carbon, water, and biodiversity. The contract is established between the hemp industry and a company that finances part of the hemp cultivation production cost over a specific area in exchange for these indicators.
The plant with 10 SDGs

Hemp meets 10 of the 17 global goals adopted by the UN in 2015 to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. These SDGs cover various areas such as health, education, gender equality, water, and climate action. This program is supported by 193 countries worldwide.

CO2 Absorption
and Sequestration

Hemp cultivation meets SDG 13 by capturing between 9 and 15 tons of CO2 per hectare per year, equivalent to what a forest captures, with part of it sequestered in products. Additionally, carbon is then stored in certain materials used in construction or plastics, for example.

Water Resource
Economy and Protection

Hemp cultivation contributes to SDG 14 as it requires no irrigation or phytosanitary treatments, helping conserve water resources and protect groundwater.

Biodiversity
Respect

Hemp cultivation meets SDG 15 by providing an excellent biodiversity reservoir through its dense foliage, promoting beneficial insects and pollinators. Additionally, it preserves soil life and richness through the absence of treatment.

Clean water
and sanitation

Hemp cultivation prevents water pollution due to the absence of pesticides.

Sustainable cities
and communities

Hemp promotes ecological and sustainable construction, improving urban quality of life.

Decent work
and economic growth

Hemp creates sustainable jobs and stimulates the local economy through its multiple uses.

Responsible consumption
and production
